St. Mary Spirit Award
Jonathan was honored today with the St. Mary Spirit Award. Only one child per class receives this award for always saying "yes" to others in his actions, efforts and service. His teacher told me last week, "I am not going to tell you why, but you need to be at Mass on the last day of school." I thought maybe Jonathan was reading or something but Jonathan said he wasn't and claimed he had no idea why Mrs. Reker-Murphy would tell me to be at Mass. I thought he was being shy or secretive. I am so glad that Diana and I were able to witness him receive this award. He even said when he heard his principal, Ms. Rosemond talk about the award, "there is no way I am getting it. And then, I heard my name." This is a great honor and we are all so proud of him! We are very blessed to have him as our son. He truly amazes me with how wonderful a child he is, what a joy he brings to everyone he meets and his curiosity to learn. One of his former preschool teachers, who is also a mom to a son in Jonathan's class, came up to him after school and said "Hey, Jonathan. What an honor for you to win the spirit award, although I am not surprised." I thought that was sweet. There are so many wonderful kids in Jonathan's class and school, I almost feel one award per class isn't enough. Oh and he also stole my heart today while sitting next to me at Mass. We were in the first row and he got to see the Deacon put the communion hosts in the Tabernacle, as I was trying to explain this to him, he said, "I want to be a priest some day...for St. Mary's."
